To increase the security of online purchases and to protect against fraud, a Verified by Visa password will need to be set up to complete transactions with certain retailers.

Verified by Visa is free of charge and you will be prompted to enter some security information and register for the service when you make a purchase at a participating online retailer.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is it?

A secure electronic service for validating your payment instruction when using your Visa Debit Card on-line

Why should I use Verified by Visa?

Verified by Visa protects your card against unauthorised transactions, giving you complete confidence when you’re shopping online. Your Visa transaction will only be authorised when you supply your password.

Why do we need Verified by Visa? Hasn't Visa been taking my security seriously before?

Visa has always made your security a top priority. Verified by Visa is an additional layer of security to give you total confidence when you're shopping online.

I was asked to sign up for Verified by Visa when I was in the middle of buying something online. Is this a scam?

Verified by Visa is an official Visa service, designed to give you extra protection and peace of mind when you're shopping online. You will be asked if you want to join Verified by Visa if you’re shopping at a web site which has signed up to the service and if your Visa card issuer supports it. It will happen before your transaction is complete.

How do I use Verified by Visa?

A demonstration on the process can be found on the Visa website https://www.visa.co.uk/media/images/vbv_shoppingdemo-10-2872.swf

I've signed up. But how can I tell that I'm in a genuine Verified by Visa process and not part of a scam?

As part of the payment verification process, you will see a personal message – the message that you provided when you signed up for Verified by Visa and that only you and your bank know about.

What do I do if I forget my password?

You can reset your password; the exact process will depend on your bank. In most cases, you will see a 'Forgot your password?' link. Follow this to quickly and easily reset your password and then go on to complete your purchase.

When you click the ‘Forgot your password?’ link, you’ll be asked for some information that you provided when you registered. Your password will then be securely and instantly reset and you’ll be able to carry on with your online transaction.

I've been sent an email by Verified by Visa asking me to update my details. Is this right?

Verified by Visa will never send you an email requesting you to update your details for any reason. If you get one of these emails it is a scam and you should report it to your card issuer – the telephone number is on the back of your payment card.
